When an American flag is no longer fit for display, it should be “retired” or destroyed in a dignified manner, according to the United States flag code. Some of Pack 75’s Bears and Webelos had the opportunity to conduct a ceremony to retire several flags by burning them respectfully over an open flame.
The Scouts practiced proper handling, reflected on the values the flag represents, and participated in a dignified ceremony. It was a meaningful experience that taught respect, citizenship, and honor—core parts of Scouting.
Pack 75 is proud of its Webelos for carrying forward this tradition.
